Why and what qualities are needed for a career in journalism

collaborative - the ability to work in a team efficiently and coordinated is key to a career in journalism

adaptability - being able to keep up with modern tech and keep on top of ever changing trends and news stories

consistance - being able to constantly put out news breaking stories at a good quality

interview styles

Piers Morgan has a confrontational interview styled goes at Andrew Tate in this interview , asking leading questions.

Louis Theroux he often plays dumb in order to seem more trusting and less of a threat in order to get more answers and make them feel more comfortable

Why smoking should be banned in public spaces

Screenshot 2024-09-03 at 10.59.26.png

Smoking is currently banned in most workplaces and most enclosed areas , recently the new labour government led by sir Kier Starmer has announced plans to ban smoking completely from public spaces including beer gardens and other communal areas.

Smoking not only damages the environment but the smokers health and other peoples health and with recent concerns amid environmental issues this will be one of the main driving forces behind the new governments move to ban smoking in communal areas.

However many think this isn't such a pressing concern amid a current cost of living crisis and housing crisis , many people disagree with the governments move to block smoking in communal areas however the environmental impact a ban like this could make cannot be understated.

Death of Small Town England

Screenshot 2024-10-02 at 11.22.01.png

In recent years across England small towns have seen a once staple and pride of a town the high street fall into a state of disrepair and desertion , with more and more shops shutting and being replaced by franchise shops and with more and more towns having retail parks on the outskirts drawing away attention from not just high streets but towns that were once famed market towns , taking away their charm , quirks and uniqueness.

This is rife across England with many towns losing their unique allure and turning into just any regular town , with the same shops such as Tescos , Aldi etc , hardly any independent shops are found in a local high street and are often replaced by more main stream and popular shops.

Aswell as this towns themselves are getting older with more young people opting to live in cities as opposed to towns and since 1981 the number of young people living in towns has decreased by 270,000 , as opposed to the 1.3 million more people over 45 year olds that now live in towns since 1981.

However despite these worrying statistics local councils remain underfunded and most MPs that represent their local constituencies make no effort to bring about change the UK high streets have had a long and drawn out death , its sad to see as especially with towns having an ageing population means those who are older might not be able to drive and most towns lack a sense of community and identity.

Evaluation

So far I'm really pleased with how things have gone , the first few days were a bit awkward but now I've got friends and or people I connect with I feel like I'm getting on better and makes for the whole experience to be better swell as that I feel my work has gone really well , however when I'm writing I need to be more slower and not just write the first thing that goes into my head however I feel like I've made a promising start , and doing things I wouldn't normally do swell as things with Joe soon which I'm buzzing for as that looks like a great way to propel myself and prove that I can be working at a high level which is where I want to be and will be

Naomi Campbell: Stealing from charity? Charitable donations funding spa days and cigarettes

Screenshot 2024-10-08 at 10.53.00.png

Recently supermodel and philanthropist Namoi Campbell has been banned as a charity Trustee for five years after an inquest into the funds raised by the charity found she was using these charitable donations toward spa treatments and cigarettes. The former supermodel  founded Fashion For Relief in 2005 , with the goal of raising funds for humanitarian causes by staging runway shows. The inquest published found multiple instances of misconduct and mismanagement , as a result of this the trustee stated they were banning Campbell as well as two others from the trusteeship.

Campbell's spokesperson stated: "she may not of been as actively engaged in the charity day-to-day operations as she should of been"

"She had "never engaged in any form of financial misconduct"

"Naomi has never received payment for her involvement with fashion for relief"

Despite Campbells spokespersons statements she has still been banned from the trust for financial conduct and mismanagement and as well as that the inquest has also revealed her financial mismanagement and her quotes seem nothing more then to save Naomi's image.

reflection 2:

The second week allowed for me too gain confidence with Vox pops and starting to edit things so it helped with me interviewing people and talking to people , aswell as that it was nice to meet new people in the course and get to know a few of the year 2s. My time management may be an issue as the bus on Tuesday is often late as I have to get a later one however the rest of the week I am on time , my confidence in what th course has to offer is high and I'm very excited to see what the rest of the course and year has to offer.

reflection 3:

The last week has allowed for me to get more and more acquainted with people on the course swell as the introduction of Joe who does football presenting and podcasting im very keen and excited to work alongside him with anything football related as he seems like a highly knowledgable person and someone who could really help me further myself and push myself with something I enjoy and passionated about.  Time management again seems to be an issue with the bus being late again so I apologise for that however overall its been a very good start and like last week am always hopeful for the future.

Woman found dead, authorities baffled

Screenshot 2024-09-05 at 11.09.01.png

A woman undisclosed to the public aged 39 has been found dead in her end terrace property in the quiet village of Ingham in the early hours of Monday morning  , there was no signs of a break in and little signs of a struggle.

Currently there is a pending investigation into the woman's untimely demise she was found with several stab wounds two thought to be lethal. No valuables had been taken from the scene and it is thought it was a crime of passion , a man around 5'8 in stature and an ordinary build was seen and videoed skulking away from the scene of the crime however with no signs of a break in it seems unlikely a suspect will be caught. The woman's name has been hidden to protect any family she may have.

Police reports from the scene describe the death as " harrowing " and something which " would be expected to never happen in a place ( Ingham ) like this " the police are currently locating witnesses and any friends and family that know the victim

Photoshop

Screenshot 2024-09-18 at 10.46.00.png

photoshop based on famous rapper and producer MF DOOM.

I used one of MF DOOMS colourised album covers " madvilliany " which featured DOOM and famous rapper Madlib , madvilliany is one of DOOMs most acclaimed albums featuring songs such as " fancy clown " , " curls " , " all caps " and many more songs , DOOMs albums are often sampled from blues songs such as fancy clown which was sampled from the 1975 song " that aint the way you make love "

Another famous song " rapp snitch knishes " featured on the " M.M FOOD " album was sampled from David bowies a space oddity

today we met and spoke to migrants in college about their experiences , what their country of origin was like and series of other questions about who they are , what they like and what are their interests.

At first we all wrote down our names and drew what relates to us and what we like , we then went round and introduced ourselves and had conversation some were a bit difficult however they were all nice regardless.

Project 1

Idea for project and pitch

Screenshot 2024-11-05 at 10.51.43.png

Pitch / project overview:

My plans for the project are ambitious i have contacted and scheduled interviews with Terry Jermy ( current labour MP ) this is a brilliant start for me as he is someone who is very influential aswell as someone who is very well respected , he is an openly gay man and the basis of the project is surrounding diversity is a very crucial person to have on board,

My plans include having Terry aswell as current labour councillor Terry Land and former mayor and councillor Mark Robinson on an interview for the 3 to have a proper intellectual discussion , i want to dive in regarding how they feel a lack of misrepresentation and or underrepresentation portrays the parlimentary system as perhaps archaic and how Terry Jermy and labour look to tackle issues in smaller communities and solve the lack of diversity in Uk politics aswell as why do they think there is a lack of representation.

Id also like for the 3 to speak on local issues aswell as Mr jermys plans for the local areas , why Mark might have any opposition to these plans his beliefs and views , looking at why liz truss lost to terry jermy

All research is taken via the Sutton Trust which helped inform my script and qu

Screenshot 2024-11-28 at 09.57.22.png

How has this research helped?

My research has helped inform not only what questions I will ask but my own knowledge , I have looked at official statistics and these have informed me of the disparities between the UK populous and MPs , these disparities range in education , class , gender , ethnicity and race and ultimately helped me structure my interview on top of that helped inform me of my questions which without prior knowledge wouldnt of lead to a discussion around the issue

Podcast info:

My podcast thumbnail is former Thetford resident and one of the founding fathers of America , Thomas Paine.

In my podcast I speak on issues surroundingThetford and the local area as well as issues on a larger scale.

Im joined by labour and thetford councillor Terry Land who provides a brilliant insight on the goals for the constituency with the ascendance of Terry Jermy as MP for south west norfolk

Podcast inspirations:

Screenshot 2024-12-05 at 12.16.47.png

The trawl a podcast hosted by two female political commentators is a brilliant and thought provoking podcast , they go over prominent issues within the UK and go through news on twitter ( now X ) and discuss.

The guardians own , 'Brexit means..' is a podcast from a few years ago in which navigates is way round what Brexit means , and what its effects are , it has a whole host of different voices including remainers and levers , this helped me try to be less impartial and informed some of my questions and structure

Practical Skills

Practical research: experiments with technical elements ie - filming, audio, studio setups, using software premier, Indesign.
Make sure you explain and analyses elements

Audio testing:

Screenshot 2024-11-13 at 12.01.09.png
Screenshot 2024-11-13 at 11.51.23.png

All audios have been edited to cut any mistakes or sentences that dont flow including background noise , like bangs , tapping etc...

This is all practice for my upcoming project which i will need to use audio editing to make it as clean as possible.

Aswell as this i have also practiced using title cards and transitions this will all be used on my project to tie it all together aswell it helps indicate to me what clips are what.

EMP interviews review

With the EMP students and interviews the setting up was difficult as the room had poor lighting and was echoey meaning we will have to reinterview them as well as this some of the answers aren't going to suit the format and the style in which the questions were asked just wont suit the clients demands , aswell as this there was a lack of clarity between us and the client as originally we thought that we had two rooms with better lighting and meant we had a bigger crew for ultimately one interviewee.

The follow up interviews will be much better with the required equipment.

EMP proper interviews

Interviews with EMP students , better then the previous set more passion then previous with better answers to questions aswell as questions said in the answers meaning the questions can be taken out , editing still needs to be done however we are not sure what the client wants doing yet.

They were shot in two different forms portrait and landscape for varying forms of media , all in all was better with better lighting , audio and visuals.

Olive the poppy seller

Notes regarding olive the poppy seller:

Olive , 92 years old when she killed herself , collected money for charity by selling poppies outside the Bristol Cathedral ( as her husband died in the war ). Her family noticed she was acting strange showing signs of depression and anxiety

family says it was due to the overwhelming amount of letters received from charities ( around 3000 )

Family stated olive had been ruined by newspapers , as it led to pressure

A journalist at the newspaper firm that published olives story , stated olive came in one day fed up with all the mail and threw it on her desk

olives story broke new ethical laws however it was wrong of them to put all this pressure on a depressed old lady

it was later "proved" that olive killed herself because of her mental health and had nothing to do with the newspaper.
