Project Proposal

Project Pitch to include mind maps, drafts and any notes etc

Is the UK parliamentary system sustainable for the average person i.e does it help people succeed , live a good life and support its population.

Greenwashing - are government plans to reduce waste , co2 emissions etc actually going ahead or are they lies?

Pitch evaluation

My pitch didn't exactly go to plan i had an idea and couldn't convey it properly , that combined with a lack of visuals lead to a lack of understanding i didn't really feel confident presenting as i felt underprepared i felt like i could of done more work on researching and on the actual pitch having more visuals would of been more visually intriguing , on the whole i think the pitch could of been more well constructed and better presented by myself but its down to a lack of visual prompts and lack of preparation myself

Project planning and project so far

For my project i have decided to do it on political sustainability , specifically looking at the UK parliamentary system and whether it is built for to serve the majority of society or the rich few as explored in my pitch ( to probably not the best of my ability ) i will be writing an article using segments from my interviews with Nikos Savvas ( head of Eastern Education group ) , sit ins on local council meetings and interviews with councillors to better understand the parliamentary system and how it affects local politics , aswell as that i will be conducting my 3D via voxpops asking whether locals feel represented by local councils and if they feel like councils are doing the best to represent them , this will help me understand if people feel genuinely represented and ties into my question around if the parliamentary system is built for the many or the few.

The project so far:

I have conducted one of my interviews with Nikos Savvas , that needs to be edited and ideas need to be drafted , aswell as that i need to do a write up on the breckland county council meeting which will be audio recorded and will feature a host of questions from myself and other residents.

Laws and ethics

Defamation: one famous time that the defamation of someones character has been taken to court was Vardy v. Rooney this occurred when Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking her private instagram to The Sun thus starting the lawsuit. Whilst i know not to say things that could lead to defamation my guests may not so i will need to edit out any possible defaming comments

Several examples of copyright include; downloading music off the internet , making unauthouirsed copies of videos , recording a film in a cinema , etc... for me i wont be using many images or music so copyright shouldnt be an issue however ill need to be careful if i do use any images that they are copyright free.

Background research

As my topic is on political sustainability looking at whether people feel represented is telling of those in charge not just that but is telling of the system itself according to the ' electoral reform ' just 4% of people feel represented in west minister by at least one of the parties , whilst its understandable that not every single persons view wouldnt be shared by a political party , with only 4% of people feeling represented in west minister it shows a lack of understanding between MPs and the general population considering it is out of all parties that means that over the years the founding views and beliefs have become skewed and misaligned with actually trying to help people and make peoples lives better and instead having ulterior motives the data was taken from just after brexit in 2019.

64% of conservatives and 62% of labour supporters feel they have little to no opportunities to influence and inform decisions in parliament again tying into whether the system on the whole is sustainable , can it actually make change when such a large portion of people feel they cannot make any impact and feel their voices are unheard via ' electoral reform '

Many voters also believe the current political system is broken  with 64% of respondents believing cooperation across the 2 major parites

The ERS believe that unless democratic reforms are made levels of distrust and disillusions will reach ' dangerous levels ' as well as renewing the belief via Lord Hailshams warning that the UK runs the risk of becoming an " electoral dictatorship " , with ' few opportunities for meaningful public involvement '

Evaluation

When originally assigned the project i couldnt really think of anything that interests me regarding sustainability i decided to go down looking at the government system and seeing whether or not the system itself is sustainable for the vast majority of the population , as i thought it is a prominent issue within the UK at the moment , the idea was already in my mind as I wanted to explore the state of the political system and just had to adapt my question to fit the required topic , my idea was consistent throughout and didnt change all to much ,  my ideas are shown via mind maps.

My research helped not only inform my questions but helped inform me about the characters of my interviewees  , my research as said helped me with my final production as i was able to ask and have a more tailored conversation , i could of done alot more primary research instead of mainly secondary research , in future i should look to conduct more primary research whether that be via voxpops or polls etc... my research mainly included character research about my interviewees and some topic research , i did not do a summary of my research as it was primarily character research and there wasnt much to summarise , i did not prove i have an audience however it is a prominent issue that affects numerous amounts of people so there may be interest.

From the beginning I had a clear plan for my project to include a written piece , audio piece and visual piece and that has stayed the same with me conducting two interviews one of which via zoom which was screen recorded for my visual and then an audio interview , i did editing experiments which helped me make my final project this included cutting audio rearranging tracks etc... i should of done more experiments and it is something that needs working on for next time.

My plan from the start hadnt changed nor was there many obstacles in the way of following through with my project , i used my calendar which included interviews and adequate time to edit and write , there was nothing that was changed last minute , all my interviews went good minus losing storage on my phone for one the interview was still useable.

Overall i dont believe this has been the best showcase of my skills as i felt limited by the topic and wasnt that enthused by it however i felt i could of done a lot better.

Reflect & Develop

After every activity, skill learnt and experiment carried out REFLECT on –

technical, management & emotional

  • Successes & issues you have had

  • How you are going to deal with these elements in the future

  • Note what went well, what didn’t go well, what you had to change at the last minute and why, and how could you avoid this in the future? How any issues were resolved and were there any happy ‘accidents’?
